Two killed in accident

Two persons were killed and 13 others injured, two of them seriously, when the car operated by a driving school hit another car coming to Kumarakom with holiday makers at Kannadichal near the backwater tourism destination.

According to Kumarakom police, the deceased have been identified as Thomas Varghese (56 years) of Thiruvarpu, who runs the driving school and Ajeesh Ansar (18) Cherupushpavilasom, Kumbalam, Kundara, who was a student at a private engineering institute in the town.

Thomas Varghese died on the spot while Ajeesh died at the Kottayam Government Medical College Hospital.

The car operated by the driving school, a Maruti 800 had five passengers including the owner.

All of them sustained injuries and have been admitted to the Medical College Hospital.

The passengers in the other car, an Innova, were students from the private engineering institute in the town .

The car after hitting the other vehicle overturned and fell into the water-logged paddy field making the rescue operations difficult for the rescuers.
