PALAKKAD: Two persons were admitted to the Alathur taluk hospital with injuries sustained when a country-made bomb exploded at the private bus stand at Alathur here on Tuesday.

The police said that the bomb exploded when the wheels of a bus passed over a packet of gelignite sticks.

The injured are Siddiq (34), son of Beerankutty of Pallipuram Vazhakkode, near Chelakkara, and Kirshnan (55), son of Vasudeva Iyer of Thennilapuram, near Alathur.There were some hoax bomb calls to the police station from many schools in Alathur area on Tuesday. But on examination it was found that some packets that were found near the schools were aimed to create scare among the students.
