In separate operations conducted in different parts of the city, the shadow wing of the City Police arrested two drug peddlers and seized banned tobacco products and illegally mined sand.

Jilsar, 41, of Chembukadu colony and Mahesh, 31, of Rail Nagar, Kadavanthra, were arrested from Kaloor-Kadavantha Road. Police said that Jilsar was selling narcotic drugs under the cover of his lottery sales.

The police team seized 10 packets of dry ganja from the accused. Jilsar was serving sentence for drug peddling and was released from prison three days back.

In another operation, three persons, including two migrant labourers, were arrested on charges of selling banned tobacco products in the city.

Sivanandan of Thoosiparambil, Karanakodam was arrested with nearly 6,000 packets of pan masala, which he was selling clandestinely.

Later Krishna Sethy and Prakash Das of Odisha were arrested from near Ernakulam South Railway station with nearly 200 packets of pan masala in their possession.

In a joint operation with Eloor police, the shadow police seized 32 loads of illegally mined sand.

Twenty-seven loads of sand were kept in two ghats behind the ESI hospital and five loads at Pump House ghat.
