The Kuttiyadi police, on Thursday, arrested two persons on the charge of arranging hideouts for a person who was accused of sexually abusing a five-year-old girl at in the district last week.

Investigators said they had arrested K. Kunhabdulla, 51, of Thaikandiyil, Vanimel, and P. Subair, 33 of Malokunnathu, Vanimel, for assisting the prime accused, P. Salam, to remain elusive from the police and also arranging a vehicle for him to escape.

A manhunt has been launched to arrest Salam. He had sexually abused the minor girl, who was his neighbour, the police said.

T.K. Rajmohan, Superintendent of Police, Kozhikode rural, said investigators also suspected that two others had also helped the main accused. They were also at large.

Meanwhile, the police charged the two arrested persons with Sections 212 (harbouring offender) read with 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code. The duo were produced at the Nadapuram Judicial First Class Magistrate Court and were remanded in judicial custody for 14 days, Mr. Rajmohan said.
