Two held for dumping waste in forest near Sabarimala

A Forest team, headed by G. Prasad, Assistant Conservator of Forests, arrested two persons on charge of dumping a lorry-load of plastic waste, coconut husk, and other waste materials in the forests near Chalakkayam on the Mannarakulanji-Pampa main trunk road leading to Sabarimala on Sunday.

Mr. Prasad told The Hindu that lorry driver Biju and Jayakumar, contractor, who runs a tender coconut stall at Pampa, were the arrested.

Remanded

The accused and the vehicle were handed over to the Goodrickal forest range staff at the Plappally Forest Station.

The accused were produced before the Judicial First Class Magistrate’s Court in Ranni on Monday and remanded in Pathanamthitta sub-Jail till November 30.
