Two persons of Tamil Nadu origin, have been apprehended by police for a case of robbery in which two brothers received serious injuries after they were hacked by the miscreants. The incident occurred at 2.15 a.m. on Friday at Ettumanur. The police are in search of a third person.

According to the district police chief C. Rajagopal, it was the presence of mind of a sixty-year-old lady who lives nearby, which helped the police to swing into action and apprehend the culprits. The two arrested persons are believed to be part of the ‘Thiruttu Gramam’ network in Tirunelveli district in Tamil Nadu, the police said.

According to the police, one of the three robbers had entered the house of Nediyakalayil Rosamma who lives along with her two sons Mathew (25) and Sebastian (30) at the Treasury Road, Ettumanur after breaking open the front door. They forcibly caught hold of the gold chain worn by the landlady, when the younger son defended his mother.

He was attacked by another robber with long and sharp steel knife (which is usually used by butchers). The elder brother who rushed to the site was also attacked. However, on account of the surprise counter attack, the three had fled the premises.

The brothers have been admitted to hospital with wounds on head their heads and hands.

The robbers had escaped with a gold chain, the police said.

The police who were in the area could apprehend one of the culprits while the three were coming out of the house. He has been identified as Chandran (45). However, the other two had ran away. But the police caught the second one, Krishnana (25) after chasing him for more than a km from the spot.
