The Koothattukulam police have registered cases against two LDF MLAs, Koliyakode Krishnan Nair and Suresh Kurup, for allegedly entering polling booths in the Piravom constituency on Saturday against the directive of the Election Commission.

While both the MLAs have denied having entered the booths, they have said they had been to the constituency.

The Election Commission had asked all political activists from outside the constituency to leave ahead of Saturday's polling. On Friday, the police had made ‘jeep announcements' several times asking all those who did not belong to the constituency to leave. This was a preventive step to ensure that the polling went off smoothly and without any untoward incident.

Mr. Kurup, while confirming that he had been to the constituency on the polling day, told presspersons that as an MLA, he had every right to go to Piravom. “The Election Commission cannot deny my right,” he said.

The police had reportedly registered cases against the MLAs on the complaints of UDF activists.
