Forest Minister K.B. Ganeshkumar has directed wildlife officials to trap the tigers causing threat to the villagers around the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary and put them in Thrissur zoo.

In a press release on Monday, he said he had also directed the Thrissur zoo authorities to keep the tiger enclosures clean and ready to receive the trapped tigers.

He further asked the Chief Wildlife Warden to ensure the availability of sufficient number of tiger traps for the sanctuary officials in Wayanad.

He said the government would ensure prompt compensation to the farmers who lost their cultivation or livestock to wildlife attack.

Cattle reared by farmers living on the fringes of the sanctuary would be provided with micro-chips for the purpose of identification to disburse compensation in the event of tiger/leopard kills.
