Sree Narayana College here in association with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) is organising a training programme on “protection and promotion of human rights: the basic issues”.

The programme to be held at the seminar hall of the college on February 22 will be inaugurated by Chairman of the Kerala State Human Rights Commission (KSHRC) J.B. Koshy.

Human rights activist B.R.P. Bhaskar will address a seminar on “human rights and common man”.

Secretary of the KSHRC G.S. Shylamani will talk on “human rights of women and children”.

Kerala High Court lawyer B.D. Binu will talk on “human rights and the Right to Information: major impediments”.

Suresh R, Associate Professor of political science, will present an overview on “universal declaration of human rights”.

Senior research officer (training) of the NHRC S.K. Jain will attend the programme.

The programme aims at creating awareness among a select group of teachers and students from educational institutions in Kollam.

The participants will be trained to conduct human rights awareness programmes in their respective localities with the support of local self-government institutions.
