The four-day-old strike by drivers and crew of around 2,000 container carriers has resulted in the carriers going off the roads and threatening to disrupt cargo operations at Cochin port and at the International Container Transshipment Terminal.

A spokesman for Trade Union Co-ordination Committee, which gave the strike call, said talks on Thursday in the State capital in the presence of Additional Labour Commissioner Toni Vincent failed, forcing the workers to continue their strike. The container lorry crew are demanding higher wages and better working conditions.
