THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Traffic restrictions will be enforced in the city on Wednesday and Thursday in view of President Pratibha Patil’s two-day visit to the State capital.

On Wednesday, traffic will be regulated from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. on the stretch between Airport, Shanghumugom, All Saint’s College junction, Chaka, Pettah, Genera Hospital Junction, Asan Square, P.M.G, R.R. Lamp, Museum, Vellayambalam and Kowdiar.

According to Assistant Commissioner of Police, Traffic, North sub-division, K.S. Sreekumar, vehicular traffic will be restricted on the Kowdiar, Vellayambalam, PMG, Palayam, R.R. Lamp stretch from 5 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. on Wednesday when the President is scheduled to visit the Kerala Legislature complex to inaugurate the valedictory function of the golden jubilee of Kerala Assembly.

On May 1, movement of vehicles will be restricted between 7.30 a.m. and 9 a.m. on the Kowdiar, Vellayambalam, Museum, R.R. Lamp, Palayam, Statue, Pulimood, Ayurveda College, Overbridge, Pazhavangadi, East Fort stretches when the President is scheduled to visit Sree Padmanabha Swamy Temple.

Traffic will be restricted again from 10 a.m. to 12.30 noon on the Kowdiar, Vellayambalam, Vazhuthacaud junction and later on the Museum, R. R. Lamp, Palayam, General Hospital junction, PMG, Pettah, Chaka, All Saints College junction, Shanghumughom and Airport stretches on account of the visit of the President to Tagore theatre to inaugurate the R. Sankar centenary celebrations being organised by the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee.

On both days, vehicles coming through National Highway 47, M.C. Road to Thampanoor and East Fort will turn left from Pattom junction and proceed via Marapalam, Kuravanakonam, Ambala Nagar, Ambalamukku, Olampara, Sasthamangalam, Maruthunkuzhi, Kochar Road, Edpazhangi and Xanadu.

All vehicles, including KSRTC buses, will take this route.

Vehicles from East Fort, Thampanoor and Nedumangad proceeding to NH 47 and M.C. Road during the period of traffic curbs on both days will proceed via Thampanoor, Thycaud flyover, Valiasala, Kannettumukku. Jagathy, Edapazhanji, Kochar Road, Marthunkuzhi, Sastahmangalam, Olanpara and Ambalamukku.

According to the Assistant Commissioner, parking of vehicles on the VVIP route and adjacent routes will not be allowed.

Dumping of construction materials on the roads has been banned in view of the VVIP visit. Entry of heavy vehicles, including lorries, will not be allowed, the release said.
