The condition of the five-year-old boy, who is undergoing treatment at a private hospital here after being severely tortured by his father and stepmother, continues to be critical

Though he showed some signs of improvement in the noon, his condition turned critical again in the evening, hospital authorities said. He is being given treatment as per the direction of an expert medical team from Kottayam Medical College Hospital. The team had visited him on Wednesday.

Hospital sources said though he was removed from the ventilator support to analyse his breathing, he was immediately put back on ventilator as his condition showed no improvement. Doctors are keeping a round-the-clock vigil.

Remya, the mother of the child, visited him at the hospital. She came in a vehicle of the Peerumade Tahsildar. There was some resistance from the public on the premises of the hospital alleging that she had abandoned the child. She said her child was abducted from her. She lived separately after Sheriff, the father, remarried Aneesha. Shariff and Aneesha are now in the Peerumade and Kottayam sub jails. Minister for Labour Shibu Baby John and the Child Protection Council Commissioner visited the child at the hospital.
