KOZHIKODE: A healthy status is to be earned through wholesome, nutritive food, safe drinking water, exercise, pollution-free environment… recommends Arogyam Janangalilekku, a worthy handbook on the dos’ and don’ts for a healthy living.

The leitmotif of the publication spread over 10 chapters and written in breezy style is – prevention is better than cure.

What society ought to demand from the authorities are basic amenities such as scientific garbage disposal and potable water, the foundation on which hinges a healthy lifestyle instead of undue emphasis on more number of hospitals and state-of-the-art equipment.

“We live at a critical juncture when everybody is prone to diseases. It is my earnest hope that this book will provide the needed inputs to counter the unenviable situation that confront us,” the author Dr. P.K. Shashidharan says.

“What I try to convey is presented in a simple way based on authoritative information. I am hopeful of creating awareness on the subject which is very vital at this point of time.”

Dr. Shashidharan, Professor and Head of the Department of Medicine, Kozhikode Medical College, says it is the alarming increase in the number of persons who sought treatment that prompted him to bring out Arogyam Janangalilekku.

Arogyam Janangalilekku, priced Rs.60, is brought out by Poorna Publications. Dr. Shashidharan’s earlier publications include Health Care of the Elderly and Doctors’ Pocket Companion.
