: The State Election Commission has stepped up security at the seven booths in Kannur district where repolling will be held on Monday.

The commission has directed the Kannur District Collector to ensure that additional security is provided in the booths to avert untoward incidents. Voters without identity cards will not be permitted to enter the polling booths. Cameras will be installed within the booths. People will not be permitted to crowd within 200 metres of the polling booths. A Deputy Superintendent of Police will be in charge of the security of each booth. In addition to the common observers deployed by the commission, each booth will have a micro observer too. The Northern Range IG will supervise the security arrangements in the district.

Polling at the Kazhivur ward in Kanjiramkulam panchayat will be held on Monday. Voting was deferred here on Saturday on detecting that the symbol of an Independent candidate L. Shine was printed erratically on the ballot paper. Instead of ‘rising sun' allotted to Mr. Shine, a pair of spectacles was printed on the ballot.

Partial repolling has been ordered in Booth No.2 in Ward No. 3 of Nandiyode grama panchayat on October 26. Repolling has been ordered to the block panchayat owing to a mix up in the ballot paper distributed in the booth, the commission said.
