KOZHIKODE: Three nominations filed for the Assembly byelection from Thiruvambadi were rejected after scrutiny on Saturday.
These were of Jolly Joseph, Cheriamohammed and K. Padmarajan Nambiar.
The number of nominations for the byelection is seven. A clearer picture of the number of candidates who would be in the election race would be available on November 20, which is the last date for withdrawal of nomination.
Women outnumber men 82,035 to 78,949 in Thiruvambadi constituency.
The constituency has an electoral strength of 1,60,984, Deputy Collector (Elections) E. Devadasan said on Saturday.
It has been decided to set up 153 polling stations in Thiruvambadi for the byelection on December 4.
Thamarasserry and Kattippara panchayats would have 31 polling stations and Kodencherry 23. As many as 850 persons would be deployed on election duty.
PDP(Secular) for UDF
The People's Democratic Party (Secular) will extend support to the United Democratic Front (UDF) candidate in the Assembly byelection from Thiruvambadi.
At a press conference here on Saturday, PDP (Secular) State general secretary Ramadas Karur said all efforts would be made by the party to ensure the success of the United Democratic Front candidate.
