Nearly 360 cinemas affiliated to the Kerala State Film Exhibitors’ Federation remained closed on Thursday in protest against the government move to collect Rs.3 per ticket as cess towards the welfare fund for needy artistes. M.C. Bobby, general secretary of the federation, said that the strike was total. “We will not accept the government decision to collect Rs. 3 cess per ticket, as any hike in the ticket rate would result in theatres remaining vacant,” he said.
