: The Hindu on Thursday observed the safety week by organising an awareness programme at its printing press unit at Kinfra Park on the outskirts of the city.
Providing a safe working environment was important to attain high levels of productivity, said G. Madhusoodanan Nair, manager (safety and environment), Travancore Titanium Products Limited, who spoke at the function.
According to him, recent studies have shown that around 15 million occupational accidents occur throughout the world every year.
“All the accidents occur due to either unsafe actions or unsafe working conditions or both.
Soon after an accident, instead of finding fault, one should do the needful so that such mistakes are not repeated,” he said.
The topics covered at the session included the importance of various factory rules and laws concerning mandatory safety procedures, and safety precautions at home and workplace.
The employees were also given awareness on road safety.
Mr. Nair also made a short visit to the press and suggested some safety measures.
