‘The Dance of the Enchantress,’ a documentary by Adoor Gopalakrishnan and Mohinayattom exponent Brigitte Chataignier, will be screened at 10 a.m. at the Kalabhavan on August 23. The screening is being jointly organised by the Alliance Francaise and the Embassy of France in India. The film tries to capture the beauty and grace of Mohiniyattom. Watching the film, one becomes aware of the extent to which Mohiniyattom is linked to life in Kerala.

‘The Dance of the Enchantress’ follows the inner life and feelings of a young dancer. The depiction of the life and work of her guru as a ‘parallel and intertwining’ theme complements the main plot of the story. Ms. Chataignier came to Kerala in 1987 and learnt Mohiniyattom under Kalamandalam Leelamma and Kalamandalam Kshemavathy. Along with her husband, Michel Lestrehan, she founded ‘Prana’ — a company to promote Indian performing arts and contemporary art, the press note added.
