The Thalayi fishing harbour will be commissioned by September this year, Minister for Ports and Fisheries K. Babu has said. The Minister visited the harbour on Saturday to review the progress of work.

All obstacles with regard to the construction of the harbour had been removed and tenders would soon be floated for the construction of the net mending station, loading area and internal roads, the Minister said.

Union Minister of State for Home Mullappally Ramachandran; Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, MLA; and municipal chairperson Amina Maliyekkal, accompanied him.

Mr. Babu said that administrative sanction had been accorded for the renovation of the Dharmadam fish-landing centre. Approval for the fish-landing centres at New Mahe and Gopalpet would be given shortly. He added that permission had been granted for a fuel pump near the Thalayi harbour. The Minister later discussed the progress of work with chief engineer Madhavan Namboothiri, superintendent engineer A. Rajiv and executive engineer B.T.V. Krishnan.
