SIT arrests P. Mujeeb, a youth, from Malappuram

He had ‘links’ with terror suspects

He had allegedly arranged train tickets for them

KANNUR: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the police on Monday arrested one more youth in connection with the ongoing investigation into suspected links of some outfits here with terrorist organisations.

SIT personnel arrested P. Mujeeb (22), a resident of Chakkarakkal here, for facilitating travel arrangements for Muhammad Fayas and Muhammad Fayees, two youths from here killed in an encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir last month, and Muhammad Faisal, who was suspected to have a role in recruiting youths for militant organisations. According to SIT officials, Mujeeb was nabbed from Chelari in Malappuram in the morning. He was identified by Faisal, who had already been arrested by the SIT.

The police said that Mujeeb had arranged railway tickets to Fayas, Fayees and Faisal to Hyderabad. He was suspected to have arranged the tickets under instruction from T. Naseer, believed to be a vital link in the activities of suspected extremist operatives in the State.

Naseer is absconding. The SIT had already arrested Abdul Jaleel from Kadachira here for his alleged links with the youths slain in the encounter.

Meanwhile, the police on Monday produced Faisal before the court at Thalassery a day before his remand period ended. He had been sent to the jail here under judicial custody.
