Kozhikode: Tension prevailed at Iringanoor and Thuneri, near Nadapuram, in the district as a CPI(M) activist and an Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) activist were injured in separate attacks soon after an all-party peace meeting convened by the District Collector was over.

The IUML activist Yusuf was attacked at Thuneri at around 1 p.m. He suffered injuries on the head and was admitted to the Indira Gandhi Hospital at Thalassery. After two hours, a CPI(M) activist Chathothu Biju also suffered injuries in the hand when he was attacked.

He was admitted to the Cooperative Hospital in Thalassery. There were reports that both the activists were attacked with country swords, but the police said they were attacked with iron rods and wooden pieces.

Superintendent of Police (rural), Kozhikode, K. Natarajan said the situation was under control.

An all-party peace meeting was convened at Nadapuram by District Collector A. Jayathilak.

It was decided at the meeting to have a public meeting on October 7 after the meetings of political parties on Sunday and Monday.

All the leaders who attended the meeting condemned the continuing violence and said it was the handiwork of anti-social elements.
