KALPETTA: Thousands of devotees, including tribals, gathered at the Sri Valliyoorkavu temple, on the banks of the Kabani, near Mananthavadi, for the ‘laksham deepa samarpanam’ ceremony on Tuesday.

As many as one lakh lamps were lightened and chief priest Varassala Illam Sreejesh Namboothiri kindled the first lamp, temple executive officer N.K. Raveendran said.

Karappan Moopan and Raghavan, tribal leaders, and temple ‘ooralans’ lighted lamps at the ‘thazhekavu’ of the temple.

The programme was organised by the Akhila Bharatha Ayyappa Seva Sanghom Valliyoorkavu unit in connection with the ‘Thrikkarthika’ festival. District Collector C. Bhaskaran, Sub-Collector N. Prasanth were present.
