The teachers and staff of unaided schools have sought the implementation of the recommendations of the Sukumara Pillai – A.A. Baby committee on their service and salary-related issues.

Kerala Unaided School Teachers and Staff Association president M. Rajan said on Friday that the State council of the association raised this demand. The report was submitted to the government five years ago. Pay parity with government school teachers was the main recommendation of the panel. The association had urged the government to give District Education Officers the authority to ensure that all teachers got the recommended salary, Mr. Rajan said. There was a verdict by a Delhi court in 1996 that said unaided school teachers were entitled to the same salary paid to government school teachers. Teachers in the unaided sector should get maternity leave and vacation salary, he added.
