Lifting of night traffic ban on NH 212

The recent meeting between Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and his Karnataka counterpart Jagadish Shettar in Bangalore on lifting the night traffic ban on Karnataka’s part of the Kozhikode-Kollegal National Highway 212 was a failure, M.I. Shanavas, MP, has said. Speaking to mediapersons here on Saturday,

Mr. Shanavas, who was also present at the meeting, said the Karnataka government had not responded positively to the State’s demand. Mr. Chandy’s proposal to construct a flyover on the Karnataka’s part of the road had been rejected. Mr. Shettar had said that such a construction inside the Bandipur tiger reserve would adversely affect the environment.
