Drought review held in Kasaragod
Tenders will be floated to execute drought-relief works in 24 hours in the district, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said.
Steps would be taken to take drinking water to affected areas in tankers, he said while after chairing a drought review meeting at the Collectorate here on Thursday.
The Chief Minister directed officers, and panchayat and municipal authorities to take effective and speedy action to ensure that water reached the most-affected localities.
The water should be drawn from the sources of the Kerala Water Authority (KWA) or else the quality should be certified by the officers concerned, he said. The government had issued an order directing the allocation of requisite funds for drinking water supply. It had also been decided to empower the District Collector to sanction the spending of up to Rs.20 lakh to tackle the situation, he said.
The government would shortly accord sanction to 45 water supply projects worth Rs.360 lakh. The completion of these projects would help provide drinking water to 26,000 persons.
Agriculture Minister K.P. Mohanan, Revenue Minister Adoor Prakash, and district panchyayat president P.P. Shyamala Devi attended.
