District Collector K.N. Satheesh has said that children need to be more involved in artistic endeavours for their holistic development.
He was speaking after inaugurating the Kalotsavam Varnotsavam programme organised by the Kerala State Council for Child Welfare here on Monday.
Children’s guardians must encourage their participation in such activities so that they veer away from turning into bookworms, preoccupied only by academic activity, he said. The function began with drawing and painting competitions for students from the nursery section to high school. In the days to come, competitions such as light music, elocution, group song, essay and story writing, classical dance, and mimicry will be held. Over 2,000 students from 170 schools across the district are expected to take part, a press release said.
