The very mission of Swami Vivekananda’s tour of the Western countries was to bring science education to India and to impart rich Indian values and Upanishad teachings to people in the West, Swami Golokananda, president of Sri Ramakrishna Ashram at Thiruvalla has said.
Swami Golokananda was inaugurating a seminar on Swami Vivekananda, jointly organised by the Kerala State Youth Welfare Board and the Sri Ramakrishna Mission in connection with the 150th birth anniversary celebrations of the seer at Panchajanyam auditorium at Aranmula on Thursday.
Addressing the seminar, Peelipose Thomas, All India Congress Committee member and former State Planning Board member, said that Swami Vivekananda strongly believed the true religious concept was one that provided food for the starving and exhausted.
Concept of religion
Delivering a speech on Swami Vivekananda’s concept of religion, Mr. Thomas said the seer’s philosophy of universal religion was an inspiration to the Western world. Swami Vivekananda’s speeches had made tremendous influence on the Western world.
Addressing the seminar, P. Prasad, CPI district secretary, said that Swami Vivekananda was the greatest socialist India had ever produced.
Mr. Prasad said Swami Vivekananda was the Ambassador of India who had proclaimed that all religions are alike and his thoughts and teachings were the guiding spirit of the new generation.
Dr Murukan, former director of Higher Secondary Education, said that Vivekananda’s philosophy of education was the revelation of the fullness of mind with courage and concentration.
Delivering the keynote address, Kummanam Rajashekharan, Hindu Aikyavedi general secretary, said that self-confidence, self-esteem, and self-consciousness were the ideas upheld by Swami Vivekananda.
K. Unnikrishnan, Associate Professor of English at NSS College, Pandalam presided over the inaugural function.
P.Harikrishnan, and V.Sureshkumar, organising committee conveners, also spoke.
