Sources close to the Suryanelli victim have said that her parents had stopped attending their local church for the past three weeks based on the advice of the church authorities.

According to them, the media coverage of her arrival at Chingavanam police station, along with her parents, had provided an occasion for the local people to identify the family. To avoid unnecessary controversies, the parents have been advised not to attend the church for a few weeks, they said.

The allegation of ostracism is unfounded. It was a mutually agreed decision, considering the privacy of the girl and her family, they said.

In fact, only the parents were church-goers. The victim had stopped going to church years back. She goes for a special prayer in another Church. She still attends that prayer.
