KATTAPPANA: The police will soon install surveillance cameras at busy junctions in Thodupuzha to monitor travellers and vehicles passing through the town.

The decision was taken following the increase in the number of robbery cases and atrocities against women and the culprits often escaping in vehicles. The cameras will also help in identifying vehicles violating traffic rules and road safety measures. However, the main purpose of installing the cameras is to collect evidence on culprits and anti-social elements, Thodupuzha DySP K.G. Simon said

Cameras will be installed at KSRTC Junction, Gandhi Square and Telephone Exchange Junction.

Mr. Simon said that directions had been issued to give training to drivers in adhering to traffic rules like wearing helmets and seat belts. Mr. Simon said that as per the DGP's direction, five Sub-Inspectors and Circle Inspectors will engage in vehicle checking at different spots in the town limit.

The police had earlier deputed traffic wardens in busy junctions in the town. Also, autorickshaw drivers had been asked to wear identity cards issued by the police.
