Officials of the Railway division who had assembled at the concourse of the railway station on Tuesday morning to receive the MP Pannian Ravindran, who was to inaugurate the AC retiring room, were taken by surprise when the CPI leader arrived at the venue in an autorickshaw.

Divisional Railway Manager S. Vijayakumaran and other senior officials were busy monitoring cars at the station for the arrival of the Chief Guest. To everyone's surprise, Mr. Ravindran emerged from an autorickshaw that arrived at the parking lot for cars and two-wheelers at the appointed time.

The Railway officials noticed the unassuming CPI leader only when he walked hastily into the portico of the station building. Incidentally, it was Mr. Ravindran's first railway function after his election as MP from the State capital.
