Says the party cannot destroy Congress in Kannur
Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president Ramesh Chennithala has said that the Communist Party of India (Marxist) is now facing serious erosion of support in the State’s politics.
Mr. Chennithala was addressing a rally organised by the Youth Congress Kannur Parliament constituency committee here on Thursday. Mr. Chennithala said that the warning of the Communist Party of China general secretary Hu Jintao at the party congress in Beijing that corruption in the Chinese party would prove fatal to the party had already been exemplified in the case of the CPI(M).
He also said that the CPI(M) could not destroy the Congress in Kannur district. Mr. Chennithala said that the attacks on the party offices in the district following the arrest of the CPI(M) district secretary in a murder case showed the true face of the CPI(M).
Youth Congress national president Rajiv Satav inaugurated the youth rally in the evening.
In his address, Mr. Satav said there that was a strong demand for Rahul Gandhi to have a greater share of responsibility in the leadership of the Congress.
He said that in the last four years, the Youth Congress was the only organisation that had transformed itself. The CPI(M) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) were hand-in-hand and were dangerous for the country, Mr. Satav added.
K. Sudhakaran, MP, addressed the youth rally. K.P. Nooruddin, A.D. Musthafa and Satheeshan Pacheni, and A.P. Abdullakutty, MLA, were among who were present at the rally.
Meanwhile, the Youth Congress workers manhandled TV channel cameramen before the inauguration of the rally. The cameramen were beaten up when they captured the visual of Youth Congress workers destroying the hoarding of a pro-Left organisation apparently in retaliation for the destruction of campaign posters by SFI activists who were protesting against the hike in bus fare.
A cameraman of a local channel was admitted to hospital with injuries.
