The mass communication students of Calicut University took out a rally on the campus on Monday seeking public support for the cause of the Mullaperiyar dam. The students under the banner of the ‘Prajnja', a forum of young media scholars, lit candles at the University Students Trap and registered their solidarity with the people fighting for a new dam at Mullaperiyar.

The students held placards and raised slogans like ‘It's not about Kerala; it's not about Tamil Nadu; it's all about 35 lakh lives', ‘open your eyes and join hands for Mullaperiyar', and ‘we are not fighting for water; we are fighting for human lives'.

Student leader Savithri Thekkumpat said that they would conduct a series of programmes to raise public consciousness against the dangers lurking at Mullaperiyar dam.
