KOCHI: In a stand-off between the Thripunithura RLV Music and Fine Arts College Principal and an English teacher, students of the college gheraoed Principal Vanaja Sankar at her office on Friday.

The English teacher had asked for special classes from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., but the Principal agreed to provide only a part of the request saying that practical classes would suffer.

The Principal said, "we had allotted four extra periods for English after consultation with the Heads of the Departments. However, the English teacher continued to take classes from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m." A memo was issued to the teacher in this regard. But the teacher told the Principal to wait for two weeks for a reply.

"When I realised that the situation was going out of control, I informed the Director of Education, who had given a letter saying that the instruction of the Principal needs to be followed," the Principal said.
