Student Police Cadets from 18 schools in the district were formally declared legal awareness ambassadors of the State Legal Service Authority, at a special function here on Saturday.
Addressing the youngsters, Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan said a law abiding society was fundamental to a vibrant and efficient democracy. Putting together new laws alone would not do, he said, adding that complying with the provisions of the law was more important in a functioning democracy.
During the first phase of the programme, SPCs would be given classes on civil and criminal laws. Later, they would be taught details of laws related to cyber crimes, and drug and other psychotropic materials. Legal experts, police officers and lawyers would lead the classes. — Special Correspondent
