Attendance in government offices and other departments in Kozhikode district remained at the previous day’s levels on the fourth day of the indefinite strike by government employees and teachers in protest against the contributory pension scheme and withdrawal of statutory pension scheme.

The total attendance on Friday was 72.61 per cent with 11,063 of the 16,516 employees attending work. Out of the 89 offices in the district, 4 registered 100 per cent attendance. The striking unions said the protest was attaining more strength every passing day, with more employees joining in. The unions owing allegiance to the ruling party alleged that the Left parties were unleashing violence in the name of the strike. The Kerala NGO Association said some of the leaders of the unions which were not participating in the strike were attacked by the striking unions near the civil station on Friday.
