Minister for Culture K.C. Joseph has said that the O.V. Vijayan memorial complex, being constructed at Thasrak near here, will be made a research centre for literacy studies.

Speaking after laying the foundation stone for the complex on Thursday near here, the Minister said the works of O.V. Vijayan reflected the life of people in the rural Palakkad.

The memorial is being constructed at a cost of Rs.2 crore. The meeting was presided over by memorial committee chairman U.K. Kumaran.

Additional District Magistrate K. Ganeshan presented a report on the project.

The meeting was addressed by district panchayat president T.N. Khandamuthan, Kodumbu grama panchayat president V. Sasidharan, and committee secretary P.K. Narayanan, among others.
