KOCHI: The foundation stone for the new building of Shilpa Society for the mentally handicapped, a charitable organisation working in the field at Palluruthy for nearly a decade, will be laid on Thursday.

The new project is aimed at expanding its work and facilities.

There are 140 students in the age groups of six years and 40 years and 30 teachers at Shilpa. The disabled friendly building has also facilities to train teachers.

The new programmes charted out by the society include a parent-training programme, strengthening vocational rehabilitation, provide a nodal centre for early intervention, residential and respite care centre and professional training.

The project is coming up in 60 cents of land at Thoppumpady. The ceremony will be held at 10 a.m.
