The Federation of Residents Associations, Kazhakuttam (FRAK), will launch an agitation demanding steps to ease the heavy traffic congestion on National Highway (NH) 47 connecting the suburban town to the capital city.
The federation spearheads an action council comprising political and social organisations, voluntary agencies, motor employees, and traders to press its demands.
FRAK president A.P.S. Nair and convenor of the action council B. Gopi told presspersons here recently that traffic on the route could be streamlined only by widening the NH from Kazhakuttam to Pallipuram and constructing dividers.
They said it was equally important to develop the parallel road network.
The federation stressed the need to demolish the dividers at the Kazhakuttam bypass junction and install automatic signal lights. It called on the authorities to demolish the wall jutting into the road in front of the Kazhakuttam police station.
The action council will take out a march in Kazhakuttam town and stage a dharna on Monday evening to highlight its demands.
Former Minister N.K. Premachandran will inaugurate the dharna.
M.A. Vahid, MLA, will preside over the function. Ward councillors, leaders of various political parties, and representatives of various organisations will address the dharna.
