A protest organised by an action council based near Pala against the realignment of the proposed Sabari rail project will enter its 200th day on Sunday.

The Deepthi Railway Action Council in Thalappalam grama panchayat has been agitating against the realignment which they claim would lead to loss of homes and commercial establishments. According to council convener Tomy Thengumpalli, the initial alignment for the proposed project from Angamali to Erumeli covered a distance of 115.9 km. However, the new alignment has been increased to 117 km.

He alleged that the authorities concealed several facts from the public domain for undertaking the project. He claimed the alignment was completed through an aerial survey process that did not take into consideration the technical obstacles on the ground.

Realignment of the Sabari project would lead to loss of homes and commercial establishments, say protesters.
