The district administration has given time for the surrender of voters identity cards alleged to have been collected by those who work in the district but are not permanent residents of the State.

At a recently held meeting of the officials of election department and representatives of political parties, it was alleged that there was likely chance of double voting by workers in the border areas who are permanent residents of Tamil Nadu.

District Collector M.C.Mohandas told The Hindu on Tuesday that he has already informed his counterpart in Theni district in Tamil Nadu and the district administrations are jointly taking steps for allowing the surrender of the voters identity card from those who are not permanent residents of Idukki district.

K.N.Ravindran, Deputy Collector (Election), said that additional police will be posted in the check post to prevent movement of people who are not permanent residents in the district during election time.

The constituencies that may be affected by the dual voting are Peerumade, Udumbanchola and Devikulam.
