KOTTAYAM: The State government is moving ahead with a programme to make the State starvation-free, Fisheries Minister S. Sarma has said.

Inaugurating the EMS Housing Project here on Thursday, Mr. Sarma said the State government had ensured rice at Rs.2 per kg to BPL families, fish workers and SC/ST families who belong to the Antyodaya Anna Yojana category and also those coming under the Aasraya Programme.

Now, the endeavour is to bring all economically backward sections under the food security net, he said. The State would strive to be a model in ensuring shelter and food for all, he added.

Two of the beneficiaries of the EMS Housing Project, Omana Thaazhathuparambu and Mohanan Pravanparambil, were handed over cheques by the Minister on the occasion. The share of Kurichy grama panchayat for the housing project was handed over to the Minister by panchayat president K.D. Sugathan. Kodikunnil Suresh, MP; C.F. Thomas, Mons Joseph, V.N. Vasavan, MLAs, and others participated.
