‘Karshakayathra’ to draw public attention to farm sector crisis

The State government is ignoring the agricultural sector, which is already going through a tough phase, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) State president T.P. Peethambaran has said.

Speaking at a press conference here on Monday, Mr. Peethambaran said that the special packages initiated by the Union government for the uplift of the farming sector here would also be lost due to the lackadaisical approach of the State government.

To draw public attention to the crisis faced by the farm sector and farmers and demanding to revive the Kuttanad, Wayanad and Idukki packages, the NCP was taking out a State-wide farmers’ rally (Karshakayathra) that commenced in Kasaragod on November 17.

Demands

The demands included immediate procurement of raw coconut and copra, apart from an end to the exploitation of farmland, Mr. Peethambaran said.

The rally would conclude in Thiruvananthapuram on December 15, he said.
