It has been in the news for the past few years that hologrammed number plates would be introduced for vehicles across the country. The aim was to standardise number plates and ensure that vehicles with fake registration numbers could be identified. Hologrammed number plates would also help check vehicle theft and hit-and-run incidents. But enforcement agencies such as the Motor Vehicles Department and police are not initiating action against vehicles, especially goods carriers, without number plates and those with improper plates. A drive through the NH bypass would reveal that the number plates of a good number of vehicles are not visible.
