St. Teresa’s defends title at varsity youth fete

Maharaja’s, Sacred Heart College secure second and third places; city student selected as ‘Kalathilakom’

St. Teresa’s College, Ernakulam, has successfully defended their overall championship title at the 25th Mahatma Gandhi University Youth Festival that concluded here on Friday.

The college, with 113 points, amassed a huge margin over the other competing colleges. Maharaja’s College, Ernakulam, had to be content with the second position with 56 points.

Sacred Heart College, Thevara, came third with 48 points. The fourth position was occupied by RLV College of Music and Fine Arts, Tripunithura (46 points).

Best performers

The ‘Kalathilakom’ title was conferred on Aswathy Jugesh of St.Teresa’s College. She bagged 15 points in five events at the festival. She came first in the folk dance and fancy dress events, second in Mohiniyattom, and third in Bharthanatyam (female) and other forms of classical dance (in which she performed Kuchipudi).

Vidhun Kumar of Mar Baselius Christian College of Engineering and Technology, Peerumade, who scored 13 points at the festival, was adjudged ‘Kalaprathibha’. He won the Bharathanatyam (male) and other forms of classical dance (Kuchipudi) events, came second in folk dance and registered an A grade in Ottamthullal.

Mridangam maestro Umayalpuram K. Sivaraman inaugurated the valedictory function. Prizes were handed over to the winners on the occasion.
