NEDUMBASSERY: Carrying expectations of all the Keralites, S. Sreesanth, first Malayali cricketer to be included in an Indian World Cup squad, left for Mumbai here from the Cochin International Airport on Tuesday morning to join the rest of the team.
Family members, friends and well-wishers were present at the airport to see him off.
Talking to reporters at the airport, he sought the prayers and blessings of all Keralites for Team India's and his own good showing. He said that the team would draw confidence from last year's West Indies tour and expressed confidence of bettering that performance.
He said that the team was high on confidence and that the spirit among the team members was good.
He said that the week-long training at the MRF Pace Foundation under the guidance of Aussie great Dennis Lillee had helped him tremendously.
Talking about her son, Savithri Devi said that Sreesanth had visited many temples and churches seeking blessings for putting up a good performance in the World Cup. His father Santhakumaran Nair was confident about the prospects of the Indian team and his son's performance in the world cup, while opining that the team was well prepared under coach Greg Chappell's training.
Sreesanth left by the Indian flight, IC 166, at 10.30 a.m. The Indian team is scheduled to leave for West Indies on Wednesday for the World Cup, cricket's quadrennial showpiece event.
