THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government proposes to create a special mechanism in the Revenue Department to speed up land acquisition for various public projects, Revenue Minister K.P. Rajendran told the Assembly on Thursday.
Responding to a calling attention motion from Thomas Unniyadan (KC-M), Mr. Rajendran said the government was finding it difficult to acquire land with the required speed on account of various reasons.
The most important obstacle to land acquisition was the density of population in different parts of the State.
The government could also acquire land only after observing all the rules and norms.
Further, those whose lands are acquired would not be in a position to buy alternative land with the money paid by the government.
The government’s efforts in this direction were also being hampered by difficulty in rehabilitating those whose lands are acquired.
He called for support from all sections of the population to ensure that the government was able to acquire land causing least difficulty to the people.
