United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson Sonia Gandhi will inaugurate the State government’s scheme to distribute generic drugs free of cost to all patients in government hospitals on September 30. The programme will be held at the Corporation hall at Poojappura at 10.30 a.m. Earlier, it had been decided that the scheme would be launched by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on September 24. Over 900 drugs will be given free of cost under the scheme. In hospitals where there are facilities for cancer treatment, 108 cancer drugs will also be given to patients free of cost. — Special Correspondent
