: The former Minister N.K. Premachandran said here on Wednesday that blind belief in the name of religion could lead society to an uncivilised state.

He was speaking after inaugurating a function here on Wednesday organised by the Guru Dharma Pracharana Sangham to observe the 84th Samadhi of Sree Narayana Guru.

Earlier social unrests were triggered by casteism, now such unrests are caused by wealth. There is a growing line of thinking to amass wealth by any means. This is a trend that portends danger. The concept of social justice was still being ignored. In an era when the same religious groups are fighting over wealth, the teachings of Sree Narayana Guru assume significance. His philosophy was one that will be infinitely relevant, Mr. Premachandran said. Those teachings are also a model for all people and for all times.

General convener of the Sangham Madhu Maranad delivered the introductory address. Chairman of the Sangham Ezhukone Raj Mohan presided. State president of the Mahila Congress Bindu Krishna and INTUC general secretary K. Suresh Babu spoke.
