The master plan of the proposed SmartCity Kochi is likely to be finalised in-principle by the end of this month.

A two-day workshop being organised by Tecom, the promoters of the proposed SmartCity Kochi, as a run-up to the finalisation process will get under way in Dubai on Monday.

The workshop assumes significance in the wake of the recent decision by the Union Commerce Ministry’s Board of Approval on Special Economic Zone granting single SEZ status to the entire project area. SmartCity (India) managing director Baju George told The Hindu on Sunday that the workshop was crucial as it was aimed at fine-tuning the concept master plan prepared by Cannon Design, an international engineering and designing firm of repute. The workshop will be attended by experts from India and Dubai. Those who have not yet worked in association with the master plan have been invited for the workshop so as to elicit a fresh perception. “They will review the master plan and suggest improvements wherever needed,” Mr. George said. The workshop in Dubai will be followed by another workshop in Kochi on January 30 and 31.
