A meeting of the board of directors of SmartCity Kochi was held here on the sidelines of the Emerging Kerala summit on Thursday.

The meeting reviewed the progress of the project and decided to expedite its implementation, Principal IT Secretary P.H. Kurian told The Hindu .

The meeting expressed satisfaction about the progress while discussing the need to secure a single Special Economic Zone (SEZ) notification for the entire project area of 246 acres.

The notification wasn’t forthcoming on account of lack of contiguity factor since the project site was separated by a water body.

Certainty about single SEZ notification is crucial for master plan completion as well. Modifications, if any suggested by SEZ authorities, would have to be incorporated before sealing the master plan.

Board members including Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, IT Minister P.K. Kunhalikutty, Excise Minister K. Babu, Mr. Kurian, and CEO of Tecom Group of Investments Abdullatif AlMulla were present at the meeting of the project.
